It has ranked one of the top Youtube videos in many countries and as of today, it has reached 78 million views on its Youtube MV in just 3 days.

The title track of Rose's solo album is "On the ground". The song and MV are made beautifully, with Rose appearing in many chic fashionable outfits.

But, do you understand the true meaning and symbolism in the MV? Today we will do an in-depth analysis behind the On the Ground MV. You'll be surprised!

This analysis will be done in a chronological manner.

1. Having achieved success

on the ground mv bomb

The MV starts with a bomb(?) moving down fast onto the ground as the backdrop of the title "On the Ground".

We all know that the first image in a MV counts a lot, which usually features the idols in their costumes. Which makes this first image in Rose MV very unique. But it also brings our attention to the true intent:- going back to the ground. As of now, we still don't have an idea what the ground means.

on the ground mv fire

Immediately after is a scene where her car got on fire. Viewers will likely understand that the initial bomb caused the destruction of her car.

on the ground mv rose dressing room

Next, we have Rose in stage makeup and dressed in a pretty hot pink Alex Perry dress and black scarf, sitting in a dressing room. The attire signals her Blackpink idol status. The dressing room is also the usual waiting rooms for idols before their stage appearance. Thus, this scene shows her present:- as a member of internationally acclaimed kpop group Blackpink.

There is silence as she stares out in space, and then the shiny chandelier lights drop down from the ceiling. This is in line with the destruction of the car, and the fancy stuff she has.

She then started on the below lyrics:

"My life's been magic seems fantastic
I used to have a hole in the wall with a mattress
It’s funny when you want it
Suddenly you have it
You find out that your gold’s just plastic

Every day every night
I’ve been thinking back on you and I
Every day every night"

The first verse basically has her talking about her present life, which is made up of fame and riches. It's magic and fantastic but she has also realized that the money is not very useful.

She then says she has been thinking about "you and I" every day and night. This phrase repeats throughout the MV, so it is important. At this stage, one might have thought that the "you" signals her boyfriend or lover.

However, you would also have noticed that she "used to have a hole in the wall with a mattress". Why did she include a description of her bedroom?

Read on further to understand why!

2. Lead to her idol stage presence

The first scene ends in black and white which then leads to Rose appearing in an all-black David Koma bodysuit and high boots outfit.

She is walking out from the brightly colored theatre building with her head held low. And the lyrics go:

"I worked my whole life
Just to get right just to be like
Look at me I’m never coming down"

She is looking again at the chandelier lights and seen pondering in this scene.

It basically talks about her quest in becoming famous and how difficult it was.

3. Rose stage presence

Next, we have Rose in a glittery Cong Tri dress. The lights is shining on her and she has the theatre building as the backdrop.

This scene depicts her performing on stage, her idol status and the glitz and the glamor.
on the ground mv face
It ends with looking into the camera with a strong expression, and singing that " Everything I need is on the ground".

It seems like she has become clear on some concepts.

"I worked my whole life
Just to get high just to realize
Everything I need is on the
Everything I need is on the ground
On the ground
Everything I need is on the ground"

4. Chasing the idol dream

on the ground mv running
The music then comes up here, with huge bright fireworks as the continual backdrop.

We also have Rose in a white Haleia skirt and Bridal Kong top, which is a similar color as her previous outfit.

on the ground mv dance

She can be seen running, and then dancing. Sharp eyed fans will also spot the iconic Blackpink dance at 1:05.

"Nah but they don’t hear me though (Yeah what goes up it must come down)
Nah but they don’t hear me though (You’re running out of time)"

The lyrics here talk about how the fame and glamor won't last forever.

5. Thinking about life

on the ground rose mv casual outfit

Rose next appears in a more casual blue dress and black jacket outfit in front of a car. She is looking more relaxed and happy here.

She then sits inside the car, where she first removed her thick stage coat. And sat there thinking about "you and I".

This scene show the Rose off stage and being the non Blackpink her. It seems like she's also pondering about life. The car also signifies one of her material gains through becoming a celebrity.

"My world’s been hectic seems electric
But I’ve been waking up with your voice in my head
And I’m trying to send a message
And let you know that every single minute I’m without you I regret it

Every day every night I’ve been thinking back on you and I Every day every night"

6. Thinking about life more

In the next scene, Rose changes into another casual outfit. It is a T-shirt from Re/Done, which she matches with short pants, boots and a furry ANDTHEOTHER coat.

She stands outside the Theatre building (which symbolizes her stage presence), and looks at it as a third person. As with the previous scene, she is portraying her off stage personality.

"I worked my whole life
Just to get right just to be like
Look at me I’m never coming down
I worked my whole life
Just to get high just to realize
Everything I need is on the
Everything I need is on the ground
On the ground
Everything I need is on the ground"

on the ground mv stage
When she sings "Look at me I’m never coming down", it implies her stage presence again. Thus, there is a scene that is momentarily changed to her in a black Mihano Momosa dress with a huge brim hat. She also has many mannequins surrounding her wearing Mihano Momosa white rose patterned dresses. This again symbolizes her idol presence, with the backup dancers.

However, one can see how short this stage scene is, as compared to her in the casual outfit. It serves as a flashback to her glam life as she is thinking about life.

on the ground mv walking away

After the last "Everything I need is on the ground" here, the bomb comes crashing down into her car and burnt it. Rose is then walking away from the car, and doesn't seem to be bothered by it.

It shows that she's nonchalant about leaving behind fame and material gains.

on the ground mv swing

This scene then leads to her on a swing, which is usually associated with childhood.

7. Young Rose

The swing scene then has some scenes with Rose on the swing with a different backdrop. She is in front of a big house with flowers.

She looks more carefree here. And again, fans with a keen eye would see the Rose with flowers has the image and makeup when Rose just debuted.

"Nah but they don’t hear me though (Yeah what goes up it must come down)
Nah but they don’t hear me though (You’re running out of time)"

This scene signifies Rose thinking back about her childhood in her New Zealand home.

8. Visiting her childhood home

The present Rose (in the hot pink dress) then picks up a rose and drops a visit to the young Rose. The rose flower is the connection between the two of them.
on the ground mv visit piano
The present Rose also looks on as the young Rose plays happily on the piano, which was Rose's hobby while she was living in New Zealand. She spent a lot of time playing the piano when she was there. The piano plays a huge role in Rose's childhood and signifies Rose when she was younger.

"I’m way up in the clouds
And they say I’ve made it now
But I figured it out
Everything I need is on the ground

Just drove by your house
So far from you now
But I figured it out
Everything I need is on the
Everything I need is on the ground"

on the ground mv visit mirror name

on the ground mv visit mirror name

The young Rose also wrote on the mirror "Rose" which changed to "Roseanne" at the point of the lyrics "So far from you now". Roseanne is Rose actual birthname. And it shows how far Rose has come, but also how detached she is currently with her younger self.

9. Getting enlightenment

on the ground mv enlightened
The last scene has Rose in a nice pink checkered ruffled dress from Haleia. She rises from a bed of flowers.

"On the ground
Everything I need is on the ground
Nah but they don’t hear me though

On the ground
Nah but they don’t hear me though
Everything I need is on the ground"

This shows Rose being carefree and light after gaining enlightenment: - that the fame and fortune is not the most important thing. That the most important thing is within her and has always been with her.

As such, we conclude that the phrase "used to have a hole in the wall with a mattress" which appears in the first verse is a memory about her childhood home.

Also, "you and I" signifies her relationship with her younger self or her inner voice.

Conclusion

Have you figured out the deeper meaning of Rose new song and the symbolism in the MV? It has a much deeper meaning and we believe that many of you blinks can relate to her feelings.

She also shines through with the gorgeous outfits in this title track in her first solo album. They also help portray her emotions at each stage of her life perfectly.

This song is in English because Rose says that it is more suitable to be sang in English to portray the correct emotions. She also sang it during "The Show", which was Blackpink online concert in January.
